COPYRIGHT INFORMATION

For many years I've been offering my artwork online. In order for me to keep offering such things (and adding new goodies as time progresses) I ask that you read and abide by these rules. It is important to note that I ONLY offer my art out for personal Web sites. I realize that some people think that everything on the internet is public domain. Do not listen to these people, as they are quite incorrect. I refer you to the nifty quote direct from the United States Copyright Office below. Basically, everything I do is covered by a creative copyright. This means that I am backed by the U.S. Government when I say “Don’t steal or rip off my stuff.” Here are a few myths I would like to gleefully crush and shatter for you:

  • Myth Number One: “It’s on the web, so it’s public domain and therefore I can do anything that I want with it, right?”

Wrong. It’s on the web, but its still my creative property, and as such protected by U.S. copyright laws.

  • Myth Number Two: “If I start out with your art, but then change it and modify it, it’s mine, and I can do whatever I want with it, right?”

Very wrong. You can use my art for whatever you want privately (wallpapers, card to your grandma, etc.), but publicly you cannot do anything without being legally liable to me - especially if it involves money. If my art was used in your creation, using whatever you did without obtaining my permission prior to that use is quite illegal.

  • Myth Number Three: “The Internet is a big place, so I can probably do whatever I damn well please and I’ll get away with it.”

Exceedingly wrong. A person that cares enough about my art to email me and say so is a person that cares enough to email me when someone else rips me off. That being said, I have several hundred people out there keeping their eye out for rippers. And trust me, they hate rippers just as much as I do. And they're a lot less nice about this issue than I am, so follow the rules or they’ll bite your head off.
